Dedicated to the memory of David Rogers

This site is a tribute to David Rogers, who was born in Salisbury on October 01, 1963 and passed away on August 14 2020. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

David Ian Rogers was born in Odstock Hospital, Salisbury on the 1st October 1963, he was the second child of Alan and Valerie Rogers.  He and his siblings Mark, Annie and Gareth grew up in Laverstock, Salisbury.

It was clear from a very young age, that David was going to excel at sport. During his teenage years his sporting prowess really developed and whilst he could have picked pretty much any sport to pursue further, including: football, squash, tennis and sprinting, his two passions were hurdling and Rugby. As a hurdler, he competed at County level and at one point held the County record, he had both speed and technique and could have gone further with a career in athletics. In Rugby again, he was known for his speed, strength and technique, he played at fly half, and was by far the strongest and most talented player on the pitch.

It was during his mid-teens that David also discovered bodybuilding. Along with his Dad, Alan, he set up a weight training gym in the storage cupboard in the sports hall at Westwood St Thomas School. On leaving school, David’s bodybuilding passion continued, and he started training at Ron’s Gym and soon became the “go to” person for training and diet tips, it was definitely HIS domain, along with Ron himself. Over the following years, he learned his training skills from Arnold Schwarznegger, Lou Ferrigno and Franco Columbu.

In 1988, David married his childhood sweetheart Tracey. These were very exciting, happy times and to make their family complete, four years later in 1992 their twins Patrick and Sebastian arrived.

David had a successful career as a Building Surveyor, qualifying in 1986. Job opportunities lead to the family moving to Swindon, where David became a partner in Peter Long and Partners Building Surveyors. His life revolved around his family and the gym.  With two growing boys, life was very hectic, lots of new friends were made in the area, happy memories of parties and barbecues with neighbours and friends were made.

David has left everyone he knew with amazing memories of the charming, fun-loving person he was, with his love of rugby, his fondness for fast cars, his determination to look great in a pair of speedos, his extremely eclectic, sometimes questionable, taste in music, his guilty pleasure of white chocolate and of course his total devotion to his sons, Seb and Pat. They were always his proudest achievement.

These are our lasting memories of David.

David leaves behind his partner Eileen and his sons Patrick and Sebastian.

Patrick and Sebastian would love to hear your memories of their Dad on this site and please share any pictures that you might have. It will be a huge help during this difficult time.

For Pat and Seb... This is Herbie's Mum, Zoë. I best remember your Dad as a new father. He was SO proud of himself for producing two of you - anyone would have thought he'd given birth to you himself! He was a lovely uncle to Herb when he was little. I have some (terrible quality) photos of your Dad when you were born and a time when you came to visit us in Stoke Newington for the weekend. I'll try and add them. Herbie and I spent Sunday afternoon thinking about you both and send our love. X

Of all the lovely memories I have of Dave the one that has stuck in my mind over the years was his pint of milk for lunch, everyday nothing more just milk! He was a lovely guy, very good looking (which he knew!) a born athlete and very good at maths I seem to remember. A live wire that all the girls wanted as theirs, he really was a reason to want to go to school ...

Memories of Dave Rogers Dave was a funny, kind and generous guy; he always had time to listen, to lend a helping hand or just chat. We knew Dave as a friend and neighbour for many years in West Swindon. He loved his family and in particular his boys Seb & Patrick. He watched over them as they raced round Hodds Hill on their bikes pretending it was Daytona and being chased all the while by our boys (who Dave fondly referred to as the Kray Twins!). Dave was always a huge presence both physically and metaphorically; I remember him leaving the house dressed as the Jolly Green Giant coated in green body paint with a shredded shirt almost covering his chest ; you always knew when it was time to leave for school as you would see Dave , lunch boxes in hand, shooing the boys out of the house and into the car . We remember Dave as a rock, someone you could depend on , who always had time to listen, and have a laugh with. Andrew particularly remembers fun trips to see Bath play at The Rec , a few beers in ‘The Huntsman’ and a bucket of KFC for the train ride home. Happy Days! Dave was proud of his boys, his home ,his Welshness and all that he had achieved ; we missed that guy and were sad to not to have been in touch with him in recent years. To Tracey, Sebastian and Patrick we send our love and be assured that we will always remember those happy times spent with you all. Rosie & Andrew Law
